Description

Eloine is a combined oral contraceptive pill containing two hormones — ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) and drospirenone (progestogen). It prevents pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus (making it harder for sperm to reach an egg), and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation.

Each pack of Eloine contains 24 active pink tablets and 4 white placebo tablets to help maintain a regular routine. When taken correctly, Eloine is highly effective at preventing pregnancy.

Directions for Use

Take one tablet daily at the same time each day, with or without food.
Take 24 pink tablets (active) followed by 4 white tablets (placebo).
After finishing the pack, start the next pack immediately without any break.
Withdrawal bleeding usually occurs during the 4 placebo days.

Starting Eloine:

If starting on Day 1 of your period, you are protected immediately.
If starting between Days 2–5, use additional contraception (e.g. condoms) for the first 7 days.

If you forget a pink (active) tablet:

If less than 24 hours late, take it as soon as possible and continue as normal.
If more than 24 hours late, take the last missed tablet as soon as possible and use extra contraception for the next 7 days.
If you miss more than one pink tablet, consult your healthcare provider.

If you forget a white (placebo) tablet:

Skip the missed tablet — no extra precautions are needed.

Vomiting or severe diarrhoea within 3–4 hours of taking a pink tablet may reduce protection. Take another tablet as soon as possible and use extra contraception for 7 days.

After childbirth:

If not breastfeeding, start 21 days after delivery.
If breastfeeding, discuss alternative contraception with your doctor.

After miscarriage or abortion:

You may start immediately and will be protected straight away.

Side Effects

Serious side effects (seek urgent medical help):

Blood clots in the leg (DVT), lungs (PE), heart (heart attack), or brain (stroke).
- Symptoms include leg pain/swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, sudden severe headache, or vision changes.
Liver issues (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Allergic reactions — swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing.

Common side effects:

Headache, migraine.
Nausea, stomach discomfort.
Breast tenderness or pain.
Mood swings, depression.
Irregular bleeding or spotting.

Uncommon or rare side effects:

Rash, hives, or chloasma (skin discolouration).
Decreased libido.
Weight changes or fluid retention.
Contact lens intolerance.
Increased blood pressure.

Warnings

Do not take Eloine if you:

Are pregnant or allergic to any ingredients.
Have or have ever had blood clots, stroke, heart attack, breast/liver cancer, or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
Have liver disease or tumours.
Take Hepatitis C medicines containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir.

Tell your doctor before taking Eloine if you:

Smoke, are overweight, or are over 35 years old.
Have diabetes, high blood pressure, migraines, depression, epilepsy, kidney, or heart disease.
Have gallstones, varicose veins, lupus, or porphyria.
Have or have had angioedema or chloasma.

Additional information:

Slightly increases the risk of blood clots, breast cancer, and cervical cancer, but reduces the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer.
Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) — use condoms for protection.
Certain medicines (e.g. St John’s Wort, rifampicin, carbamazepine) can reduce effectiveness.
