Description

Mounjaro contains the active ingredient tirzepatide, a medication that helps regulate appetite by promoting feelings of fullness and reducing hunger. It is used for weight loss and weight maintenance in adults and for the treatment of type 2 diabetes when combined with other medications or as a standalone option.

Mounjaro is administered as a weekly subcutaneous injection via a KwikPen. It is recommended for:

  • Adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m² or higher (obesity).
  • Adults with a BMI of 27–29.9 kg/m² (overweight) with weight-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or sleep apnoea.
Directions for Use

Dosage:

  • Starting dose: 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks.
  • Gradually increase to 5 mg and higher increments (7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg) every 4 weeks as directed by your doctor.
  • Maximum dose: 15 mg once weekly.

Administration:

  • Inject under the skin in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites weekly.
  • Use at the same time on the same day each week, with or without meals.
  • If necessary, the injection day can be changed as long as at least 3 days have passed since the last dose.

Missed Dose:

  • If less than 4 days have passed, take the missed dose as soon as possible and resume your usual schedule.
  • If more than 4 days have passed, skip the dose and continue as scheduled.

Storage:

  • Store in a refrigerator (2–8°C). Do not freeze.
  • Mounjaro can be stored unrefrigerated at temperatures up to 30°C for 30 days after opening.

Very Common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):

  • Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation.
  • Stomach pain, feeling full.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Low blood sugar (if used with insulin or sulphonylureas).
  • Dizziness, fatigue, heartburn, bloating, flatulence.
  • Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, itching).
  • Hair loss, loss of appetite.

Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Gallstones, gallbladder inflammation.
  • Changes in taste, weight loss.
  • Elevated pancreatic enzymes.

Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):

  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis).
  • Pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain radiating to the back).
